This enhancement modifies TimeClock Shift Maintenance to allow a Grace Time to be specified for each shift. The new Grace Time is used in the TimeClock Punch In/Out process to round punch times for the initial punch in for the day and the final punch out for the day, rather than using the rounding settings in TimeCard & TimeClock Options. The functioning of lunch punches and repunches has not been modified.

Punch in will only be allowed if the employee punch occurs between the time window of the scheduled start time minus grace time and the scheduled start time, and any punches that occur during this window of time will be rounded up to the scheduled start time. Punch in times occurring after the scheduled start time will continue to be rounded based on the rounding settings in TimeCard & TimeClock Options.

When punching out, any punches occurring between the time window of the scheduled end time and the scheduled end time plus grace time will be rounded down to the scheduled end time. Punch out times occurring after the scheduled end time plus grace time will be rounded based on the rounding settings in TimeCard & TimeClock Options.

The enhanced grace time features alleviate the problem of paying too much or too little for rounded punch in and punch out times associated with employees punching in earlier than their scheduled start time or employees waiting in line at the TimeClock computer for their turn to punch in or out.

In addition, when the TimeCard module is integrated with the Job Cost module and the “Require Job Number” option is selected in TimeCard & TimeClock Options, an additional field will be available in Shift Maintenance to allow an override of this requirement by Shift. This feature is useful for companies who need to require a job number for their manufacturing, service or production staff, but not for administrative or other staff whose time is not associated with actual jobs in the Job Cost module.

Note: The functionality added by this enhancement will only be available for employees who are assigned a valid shift at the Shift Code field in TimeCard Employee Maintenance.
